Choosing the right rope construction for your application isn’t always straightforward and with a number of options available it’s not always easy to match the requirements of the rope with the construction type required.
3-strand
Traditional stranded rope construction dating back thousands of years
8-strand
The construction gives a easily gripped ‘knobbly’ construction for mooring, anchoring and military fast ropes
12-strand
An easy to splice rope that offer good torsional stability and used in high strength braids or centre-cores for other ropes
8-plait
This is made on a 16-carrier machine to produce a ’knobbly’ style braid
16-plait
A smoother braided cord than can be used with or without a centre-core depending on application or diameter
24-plait
Typically an easy to spliced rope that can be produced in both core dependent and balanced ropes
32-plait
Produces a thinner cover to get more strength from a larger centre core but produces a harder to splice rope
48-plait
An even thinner and tighter cover allowing for an even larger and stronger centre-core. Using in climbing ropes and chafe guard
